- You may be interested in Athonite Fathers and Athonite Matters by St Paisios, who was captivated by the sincere and absolute faith, humility, and generosity of spirit of the fathers he associated with and heard about. St Paisios venerated their asceticism and dedication to the ascetic ideal, their virtues, and righteous accomplishments.
- You will find enlightening and spiritually enriching insights in Lord and Master of My Life by the sixth primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, in which he presents “Reflections on Spiritual Alertness” and appeals to the faithful to repent via his clarification of “the Prayer of Great Lent”.
- Consider the inspirational Greek biography of St Iakovos Tsalikis of Evia by Professor Stylianos Papadopoulos − who knew the Elder in person. St Lakovos was born in Asia Minor, but his family was displaced and resettled. He became a monk at the age of 32, faced overwhelming difficulties, toiled rigorously, and suffered immensely for his faith. He was rewarded with clairvoyance, the ability to work miracles, and was canonised in 2017. The book is available online.
The late Archbishop Stylianos, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church, gave his blessing for the establishment of a coenobitic Athonite monastery for men located in Mangrove Creek in 1976.
The History of Byzantine Books
Your interest in our books probably means that history and religion are important to you. The Orthodox Church avows that Jesus Christ and his disciples founded it in 33 A.D., and originated on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended.
- Byzantine refers to Byzantium (currently Istanbul), the Byzantine Empire, and the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Greek Orthodox Church or Greek Orthodoxy signifies a body of churches inside the spiritual union of Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
- The theology, history and traditions of Eastern Orthodox Christianity are entrenched in the culture of the Byzantine Empire and the Church fathers. The books we offer for sale can thus also be called byzantine, and the concept includes Russian orthodox books.
- Elder Hadji-Georgis, the Athonite by St Paisios, might appeal to you. The Elder lived during the 19th Century, and his austere efforts were still much admired and spoken of with devotion by Athonite monks in the 1950s.
It’s believed that St Paisios, who lived much later, was a spiritual descendant of Hadji-Georgis, which is probably why he felt compelled to write this history.
