SAINT EUTHYMIOS, THE GREAT 9397 Saint Eutychius, Patriarch of Constantinople, lived during the 6th century. In his first years as patriarch of Constantinople, Eutychius called together the Fifth Ecumenical Council, in which heresies were anathematized. He had much more trouble battling the heresy of Aphthartodocetism. The emperor grew angry with Eutychius and sent him into exile. After remaining in exile for twelve years, Eutychios returned to his rightful position. On April 6, 582, he called his clergy together as he reposed in peace.
