ON PRAYER is the sixth and most recent volume translated into English of the series of St. Paisios’ counsels to his spiritual children. In this collection of the teachings of Elder St Paisios of Mount Athos by the Sisters of the Holy Hesychasterion in Thessaloniki, Greece, the Elder expounds on all aspects of prayer: thanksgiving toward God, praise of God and constant doxology, petitions, struggles in prayer, watchfulness, prayer in church, and more. The Jesus Prayer is also discussed.
The elder insisted that prayer is a necessity and earnestly sought to help those who had not learned to pray “to make a start in order to get their heart working on prayer”. The book discusses prayer more generally, the hindrances that we encounter in prayer, the Mother of God, and the saints who pray for us.
As with other volumes it has spiritual depth but is understandable for Christians of any age and spiritual experience.
