SAINT CASSIANE, THE HYMNOGRAPHER 9380 St Cassiane the Hymnographer was born in Constantinople. St Cassiane entered monastic life and soon founded a women’s monastery in Constantinople. Serving as abbess of the monastery, she wrote many liturgical hymns, at least twenty of which are included in the services of the Church. Best-known is the Hymn of Kassiani, sung at Matins on Holy Wednesday about “repentance.”
