SAINT MARK, ARCHBISHOP OF EPHESUS, FULL BODY 5011 St. Mark was the Archbishop of Ephesus at the time when the Byzantine Emperor John VIII Palaeologus. The Emperor was willing to accept the heretical Western teaching about purgatory, pope authority and the change of the Nicean Creed. At a council all the bishops except St. Mark compromised the faith and traditions of the orthodox faith and signed for unity with the western church. Through the efforts of St Mark the agreement failed. St. Mark, the “Pillar of Orthodoxy,” died peacefully in 1445 AD.
