St. Theodora was married to the last of the Iconoclast Byzantine emperors, Theophilus, who reigned from 829 to 842. St Theodora’s son Michael III, evoked through his mother’s influence a council to restore the veneration of icons. When her son was old enough to rule she retired to a convent to live out her life in peace and repentance, until God called her to His Eternal and Everlasting Kingdom in about 867 AD.
