SAINT GEORGE THE GREAT MARTYR, ON HORSEBACK 9110 St. George was born in Cappadocia, and when he grew into manhood, he entered the Roman military, rising to the high rank of tribune at the age of 20. When Diocletian began a new persecution of Christians in 303 AD, St. George boldly came before him and confessed his faith in Christ, for which he was terribly tortured and finally killed. The manner in which he confessed Christ and martyred for Him made many to convert to Christianity.
